The VOX Spelling Bee for Grown-Ups

VOX Rox the Dictionary is the signature annual fundraising event of VOX Teen Communcations. Competitors representing supporters and friends of VOX face off in a high-stakes battle for spelling supremacy.
Spelling Bee 2011
The eighth annual VOX Rox the Dictionary event took place August 31 at Ventanas Atlanta. More than 200 representatives from Atlanta’s top corporations, law firms and media outlets were in attendance, including UPS, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Kilpatrick Townsend LLP, Turner Broadcasting, Atlanta magazine, Southern Company and Georgia Power.

Each sponsoring organization had one spelling bee representative to participate in hopes of winning the title. Mara Davis of DAVE FM served as the event emcee. Gurvir Dhindsa of “Good Day Atlanta,” Kwanza Hall of Atlanta City Council and Maria Saporta of The Saporta Report judged the event with assistance from veteran spelling coach Pat Heckert. The winner was Maryn McKenna, who represented the Atlanta Authors and Book Lovers group. Second place went to Sherial Cubit of UPS, while Lila King of Turner Broadcasting placed third.

During the evening, VOX teens and alumni had the opportunity to share how VOX has impacted their lives and given them the outlet that they needed to express their voices.
